Lake Washington

Temperatures in Seattle on Saturday reached 85 degrees. Not hot by Sacramento standards, but really hot for Seattle. Especially, given that we (and most other Seattleites) don’t have air conditioning and we live in a 1970’s house that is not insulated for heat (or cold). So we decided it would be fun to go to the Lake Washington beach near Mt. Baker Park.

We weren’t the only people with the idea to go to the beach. The beach was packed! Once we found a spot to set our towels, we gathered our sand toys, new squirt gun, and headed to the water.

We set down our sand toys to take a quick dip. The water was freezing, and Jack was terrified of swimming or even wading into the water. Turns out he didn’t inherit his mom’s love for water. So we decided to just play in the sand. We turned to use our sand toys and they were gone! I located our bucket, which still had the tags on it so I knew it was ours. The boy who had it gave it back to me and grabbed the next closest bucket (little bucket thief). And after some searching I found our castle-making toy and fish form. I decided to let the brother/sister pair continue to play with the toys. I told them I would be back in 10 or so minutes to retrieve them. Jack enjoyed the digging. He even gave his new squirt gun a try.

So to make a long story short, after 5 minutes of digging, Jack realized he was dirty and wanted his hands and feet washed immediately. We waded into the water and Jack freaked out! He clung to me with all his might and began to wail! When Jack tried to wipe his tears away he rubbed sun block into his eyes, began to cry louder and was now in physical and emotional distress. The sand toys were never returned and I was squirted in the eye by a kid who asked if he could try our gun (he went on to squirt all the kids in the area before I finally took it away. It’s probably what I get for buying my son a toy gun anyway). Good times at the beach!

Here Jack is recovering in daddy’s arms after his dip in the water.

2 and a half

Whenever people ask me how old Jack is I respond 2 and a half. When ever people ask Jack how old he is he says 2 and tries to hold up two fingers. That is until the last few weeks. Now, when people ask him how old he is he says "I'm two and a half."

The other day a friend said to Jack are you 2? And he said, and a half." And if he doesn't think they hear him he repeats in a loud voice "AND A HALF."

6 year Anniversary

For our anniversary we spent a quiet night at home. Marty prepared our meal. We used the tripod and the camera's timer to get this picture.

We each made a card for the other person. I have great font and card making programs on the computer. Marty’s card was sweet and included the following poem:

It takes two special people,
To make a loving pair.
There’s a joy being around you,
A feeling I love to share.

So best anniversary wishes to you,
Bringing years of joy and fun.
May each year keep getting better,
I hope the good times have just begun.

I was very impressed. Then knowing Marty so well, I guessed (correctly) that Marty didn’t compose the message, he did research on poetry and found an anniversary poem he liked and though was fitting.
It is… and his card was cute too!

California Adventure

Jack and I were together in CA for a week. We had a short time to visit all those people we love so much. We weren't able to see everyone, but we had fun.

Our longest journey was to visit the Peyron Family in San Carlos. We drove to the S. Bay at 8am and Left San Carlos to head back to Sac at 3pm. We visited the park, played in the Peyron's back yard, had a nice lunch out back together (even Matt was able to join us for a short time), then we stopped by Starbucks on the way out of town.

We met up with Brandy, Lynnette and little Audrey for the afternoon. Then had the pleasure of seeing Audrey & Lynnette the next day for some swim time. We also got to play with Summer and her baby Phoebe.

We went to the park and to lunch with Sandy, Raider, Haylie, and James Runner. And also had some play time with Nichole, Sandy’s sister, and her beautiful little girls, Kylee, and Leah (not pictured).

I got a chance to see April, who is expecting her first baby in October, and Lynette and Audrey (for the 3rd day in a row). A side not, but very cute. Jack refers to Audrey as "Miss Audrey." The first day we visited with Lynnette and Audrey Lynnette asked Jack if he would give "Miss Audrey" a kiss. The name stuck!

Jack, my mom, and I had dinner with Liz and her mom. But we didn’t bring our camera. The battery on the camera was exhausted. But we weren’t! We would have done more visiting, but we had to get back to Seattle to prepare for the summer camp I will be leading this week.

Happy Father's Day

For Father’s Day Jack painted a picture frame for Marty. He was so careful while he was working. He really took time to consider what colors to use and where to apply paint.

Nana and Poppa hosted us at there house for a barbecue.

Here's our attempt at a family picture...

We were out in the back yard taking pictures. I wanted to take a father and son picture. Jack insisted on sitting exactly like Marty for the picture.

Family Reunion

Sarah’s cousin Vicky and her husband Steve hosted the whole extend family for a Johnson Family Reunion.

Sarah’s grandma Mary was one of 8 children. All of her siblings got together once a year at her brother Vin’s house to barbecue and catch up. As the families grew and generations multiplied it got to be quite difficult to get together. Our last summer reunion was 4 years ago. Vicky wanted to gather the family and celebrate her birthday with us all. Thanks Vicky & Steve!

Jack enjoyed getting to know his cousin Henry. They both love the moved “Cars” and bonded right away!

Hawaii

Martin & Sarah spent 4 days in Hawaii. We were spoiled by Marty’s employer who hosted fun parties, provided all our meals and put us up in one of the nicest resorts in Maui. It made us forget about all the 12 and 1 am work nights and the toll long hours can take- well done!

We had a blast. The highlight may have been the second night when Marty and 2 workmates Charles and Jessie performed in the “McKinsey’s Got Talent” show. They danced to the Weird Al song “White and Nerdy.” They were hilarious and the best part was their skit won first place!

We also enjoyed our ocean kayaking trip, time by the pool & in the sun, and hanging out with all the fun people that Marty works with and their families.

Sarah also hit the sixth month mark in her pregnancy. June 5th, three more months to go…

Bye, Bye Jack

Nana (Marty's mom) flew to Washington and stayed with us for 2 days. Then she and Jack flew to California. Nana & Poppa, with help from Grandma (Sarah’s mom) watched Jack for a week. Marty and Sarah went to Hawaii with Marty’s company. We were sad to see Jack go. Sarah had to fight back tears, but Jack had a great time in California, and Marty & Sarah got a little time alone.

Nana reported back to us that Jack fell asleep as the plane took off and slept until it landed. All the grandparents said they loved spending time with Jack, that he was well behaved, and happy to do what ever they had in store for him. His visit included a trip to Fairy Tale Town, the Zoo, a surprise party for Sarah’s Aunt Sandy, lots of bike riding, and lots of time out doors enjoying the California sun.
